Washing Trapped Air

Collaborative Performance with Dance and Music Academy Codarts

This performance was created during a two week collaboration of fine artists from Willem de Kooning Academy and dancers and composers from Codarts. The theatre stage is transformed into a colourful dream-world where the performers dance on the thin line between reality and imagination.

While experiencing the performance it's never really clear if you're dreaming or awake. References to day-to-day life, like phone conversations and a train station are interwoven with dream scenarios like bulging creatures and strange sounds. Eerie and mysterious music sweeps up the dancers up into a frenzy, like a whirlwind of colours, sounds and body parts. In the end, the audience, like waking up, is left feeling confused, wondering what just happened and what was actually real. They're invited to make sense of the choreographed chaos to create their own narrative.
