Performative TAPED
Collection of abstracted and alienated self portraits
Performative TAPED is an exploration of the relationship between the shapes of our bodies relating to the space around us. We are decorated with colorful sports tape, which divides our limbs and torso into lines and shapes. The performance came out of Lío’s and my desire to move together, as we had only performed in groups. Through movement we touch, interact and investigate, push and pull, mirror and melt. We move carefully, searching for connection and balance between our bodies.
We performed in public space: in the park and in front of a metro in Rotterdam. This was to create contrast between our colourful bodies and flowy movement and the landscape of the city. We disrupted people in their daily commute through the city and confused many passers-by. Performing outside was a way to break outside of our comfort zones and to face our fears of performing for an audience. The two performances are documented with video, which is intended to read as a moving painting.
